An S2000’s “Prestige” is Defined by its Parts.
The Honda S2000 is a masterpiece even in its stock form. However, depending on “whose soul you breathe into it,” it will either remain just an old car or become a lifelong partner.
This car is famous for “de-tuning” (getting worse) if you slap on inferior parts. Today, I’ll declare the three “potent drugs” I’ve discovered over 25 years—the ones that make me say, “If I have these, I don’t need anything else.”
① The Pinnacle of Functional Beauty: Elevating the Front’s Prestige
ASM I.S.Design Front Aero Bumper 04
ASM is a sanctuary known to every S2000 owner. This bumper is their flagship masterpiece. It stands apart from gaudy aftermarket parts that intimidate with flashy canards or massive openings. It respects the original lines while providing a sharp, refined presence. This is what a mature S2000 deserves.
Honestly, even though I’m introducing it first, it’s a lower priority compared to the other two. I just put it first because I like it so much.
- What I like: The exquisite “stock-plus” stylishness. The face tightens up, and I find myself grinning every time I see my car reflected in a window.
- The biggest drawback: The price is high. Honestly, this single bumper emptied my wallet to a level where my bank account needed a “full overhaul.”

② Experiencing 20-Year-Old Excitement as “Modern” Today

Last year, I went out of my way to install this fully overhauled kit. In an era of electronic controls and multi-stage adjustments, why choose the “07 Spec”? The answer is simple: I couldn’t forget that “magical ground contact feeling” I experienced in a friend’s car 20 years ago.
These dampers use a threaded body but offer almost no freedom for height adjustment. However, I take this as a passionate message from the late developer, Mr. Tanabe: “Do not ride this at anything other than the recommended value.” A grocery run turns into Le Mans; a mountain pass turns into a circuit. With these legs, every drive is transformed.
By the way, I used to use TEIN SUPER RACING. Since I was hitting the track then, my focus was different, but I’m much more satisfied with my current setup.
To get technical, these dampers are manufactured by Ennepetal (Bilstein Germany) based on a specific request from amuse.

③ “Stab” This in Before You Buy Coilovers
AUTOBACS ASM RS-G ASM LIMITED
If someone asks, “I bought an S2000, what should I modify first?” I answer without hesitation: “Before you click ‘buy’ on coilovers, throw in a full bucket seat.” Even Thomas Edison would agree. The RECARO RS-G transmits information from the road directly to my spinal cord. A sense of unity? It’s more than that. It’s the sensation of the car becoming part of my body.
You should choose a bucket seat that fits your body. I went with RECARO, but BRIDE is perfectly fine too.
And since it’s a two-seater, you don’t need to worry about rear-seat access. Getting in and out becomes an “ascetic training” level of difficulty, but it is absolutely worth it.

This ASM full bucket seat. When I sat in it 20 years ago, it was a “Cinderella fit.” It was my destined chair.
But 20 years have passed. My S2000 has regained its razor-sharp edge with the amuse dampers, but my “physique” has mercilessly failed to hide its age.
Lately, every time I sit in this seat, I hear a “creak…” from my ribs. It’s not that the seat has high hold-ability; it’s that I am “compressing” the seat. While the ASM bumper pursues a stylish design, my waistline has widened to a level that requires “over-fenders.”
It seems before I refresh more parts, I need to lighten my own “dead weight” known as visceral fat. I feel more in danger from the sudden spike in my blood pressure than from the S2000’s 9,000 RPM VTEC.
