■ To all convertible owners: Leaving those “hands” idle is a crime
Connecting hearts for just a fleeting second with a stranger passing by on the road… Did you know that such a miraculous moment actually exists in this modern era? Its name is “YAEH!!” (A play on ‘Yeah!’).
Originally, it started as a peace sign culture among motorcyclists with the wish for “Safe Driving!”, but now it’s gathering passionate support among convertible owners too. A sense of solidarity beyond words between those enjoying the “exposed freedom” of a top-down car… Think about it logically: is there any more beautiful form of communication than this? No, there isn’t. Period.
■ Writing the disadvantages first: The wall called “Shyness” is way too high
But here, I must confess one thing. For me, the act of waving to a total stranger is embarrassingly difficult—scary, even.
Raising a hand with a smile and saying “Hey!” to a stranger on the street… I thought that was a privilege reserved only for the most extreme “extroverts” who were born basking in the sunlight. For a shy middle-aged man, initiating a YAEH takes more courage than revving my VTEC to the redline. It really does.
■ Failure stories and the solution: The “Light” sent from an ND Roadster

An event occurred that completely shattered the “emotional brakes” in my heart. It happened the other day while I was out driving my beloved S2000.
A vibrant flash of red came flying down the opposite lane. A Mazda MX-5 (ND Roadster). In that instant, the driver raised their right hand without a moment’s hesitation. It was a YAEH!
For a split second, my brain froze. But in the next, I found myself instinctively waving back. Look at the photo. See this response—partially hiding my shyness, yet a full-hearted salute.
Immediately after, I was flooded with an overwhelming sense of euphoria. The passing lasted only 0.5 seconds. I don’t know their name. I might never see them again. But in that moment where two people sharing the same “convertible” passion connected, my drive transcended from “simple transportation” to the “ultimate event.” Period.
■ YAEH might save the world… maybe
Let me conclude. There’s no time to be embarrassed. In the world of YAEH, the one who does it wins.
If a hand goes up from an oncoming car, please wave back without hesitation. I guarantee it will make your drive 100 times more enjoyable that day.
In the end, what we need to survive this harsh world isn’t the latest gadget or a high-horsepower engine. It’s that “fleeting smile” as we pass each other. Oh, and don’t forget to maintain your driving gloves so your hand doesn’t slip in that crucial moment. Period.
By the way, this image is a capture from a video, but I’m currently in a process of trial and error with that video because I’m not satisfied with how the “sound” was recorded.
