[The Secret] Car Wash Techniques to Make Your S2000 Last a Lifetime. The Identity of the “Magic Coating Agent” I’ve Used for 20 Years

Paint Deterioration is “Deterioration of the Soul.” The Obsession to Make a 25-Year Veteran Shine

“Even if the engine is in top shape, if the exterior is dry and faded, it’s just an ‘old car’.”

I’ll be honest. When you drive a masterpiece like the S2000, everyone’s eyes are on the “condition of the paint.” For owners like us who have decided to stay together for a lifetime, washing the car isn’t just about removing dirt. It’s a battle known as “Anti-Aging.”

Today, I’m going to introduce my “comrades-in-arms” that I actually use on the front lines.

There are people out there who stake their lives on car washing. I’m not that extreme, so most of my tools are things I’ve been using for ages. They aren’t the latest tech, so please forgive me—this is just an introduction.

Face the Despair. Dirt is Proof of Driving, But I Won’t Forgive It

By the way, my S2000 is usually stored underground in a mechanical parking garage. You’d think it wouldn’t get dirty, but it does. Actually, it gets incredibly dirty. Like, “Did you go play in a sandbox?” kind of dirty.

Look at this miserable state. If you blast down the highway, bugs get stuck; if you leave it, dust embeds itself into the pores of the paint. But there’s no time to stand around sighing here.

Wrap it in a Cushion of Foam: My Favorite Shampoo and Gorilla Mitt

The shampoo I use is this SurLuster shampoo. You can probably find it at any auto parts store. The point is simply “foaming.” You aren’t “scrubbing” the dirt off; you are “lifting and carrying” the dirt away with foam. I made that sound pretty grand, but it’s a shampoo you’ll definitely see someone using at any car wash. Honestly, I don’t know exactly what makes it so good, but I’ve been using it forever. It’s cheap, easy to get, and I like that it doesn’t strip away the coating I apply regularly.

And this sponge. It’s just right for scrubbing tight spots. You wear it like a glove, which is great for cleaning detail work, but I’ll admit it gets soaking wet and feels pretty gross. Also, it’s despairingly hard to dry out.

【The Core】The Glass Coating Agent I Believe is the One and Only

And here is the main star. This glass coating agent I’ve been using since forever. I don’t get fooled by those sweet modern promises of “10-year durability with just one application!”

The greatness of this stuff is the “depth of the wet glow.” The moment you apply it, the 25-year-old paint breathes again. Once you know this shine, you can never go back to other weak coatings.

…Or so I think, but honestly, I’ve loved this for 20 years and haven’t tried anything else, so I’ve convinced myself it’s the best.

Look, This is the Crystallization of “Love”

How about this shine? The texture makes it look like the scenery is being sucked into the body. This is the “blissful reward” that an S2000 owner should savor on the weekend.

“Look at this glow. This 25-year veteran S2000 is shining more divinely now than when it was new. Showing off this wet-look body to everyone in town while the VTEC screams into the winding roads…”

…That’s how I usually start my self-indulgent drive, but reality is ruthless.

A quick glance at my smartphone revealed a stack of “angry LINE messages” from my wife, piling up like free refills of rice at a diner.

“How long are you going to wash that?” “Aren’t you back yet?” “…Are you seriously sleeping there?”

The bloodthirst filling the notification screen. It feels like the paint I just polished is about to melt from my wife’s wrath. This is no time for a drive. Before protecting a car that’s a “lifetime item,” I must first protect the peace with my “lifetime partner.”

So, today, the VTEC stays sealed. I’ll suppress the exhaust note to the absolute limit, erase my presence, and return home immediately.

The car got beautiful through washing, but my rank within the family is on the verge of “release from the roster.” But I have no regrets. Because I have witnessed that glow tucked away in the garage.
