Downhill from Yahagi Dam: A Record of a Midsummer Early Morning Drive in the S2000

Recently, I published an article about spending a rich and memorable time with owners of air-cooled Porsches (993 generation) at the Yahagi Dam parking lot.

This is a continuation of that record. Inspired by those legendary cars, I left the parking lot and took the downhill route leading to the FamilyMart at the foot of the mountain.

Even in midsummer, the early morning mountain air was crisp and cool—the absolute best conditions for driving with the top down. The S2000’s direct handling and the dry, raw sound of the F20C engine blended with the silence of the mountains. Just gripping the steering wheel felt like pure bliss.

Actually, I was recording on-board footage at the time using an action camera mounted on the wind deflector. I wanted to capture the exact atmosphere of that morning and the exhaust note of the S2000 just as it was.

To let you enjoy the raw exhaust sound and ambient noise without distraction, I didn’t include any voice commentary. It’s strictly a visual and text-based driving record. Feel free to sit back and enjoy the ride as if you were cruising along the winding roads with me on a quiet morning.

As usual, I’m stuffing a ton of text subtitles into the video, and I honestly have no idea if this is the right way to do it. Well… I suppose I’ll figure it out eventually…

With unexpected, wonderful encounters, it was truly a fulfilling summer morning. I’ll definitely be sneaking out for another casual drive whenever I find the time.
